We are extremely pleased to announce that on Thursday 14th July the staff, Governors, students, parents and carers of Westfield Sports College were awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award. LPPA is a national award that provides a coherent framework through which schools can deliver effective parental engagement. It acknowledges our development of opportunities for parents and carers to continue their life-long learning; learn about their child’s learning and learn with their child.
The assessor was extremely happy with the evidence and discussions she had with many of the College’s stakeholders across the day. “…evidence from the conversations and supporting evidence (on the day, demonstrated) that all stakeholders knew the contribution they made in supporting parents.”
Some of the key strengths commented on were:
• The Headteacher, whole staff and Governing Body have a strong commitment to working in partnership with parents to have a positive effect on student learning and well-being.
• The College is a welcoming environment and parents felt that communication systems were good.
• High quality information is provided to parents via various media e.g. Newsletter, website, letter, text and e-mail.
• Effective reward systems are in place for attendance and behaviour. These systems are communicated to parents at induction and through newsletters, swipecards, SIMS and the website.
• The strong Pastoral Team support means that parental enquiries into College were answered quickly and appropriately.
• Pupils felt that the engagement their parents had with the various activities on offer had a positive effective on their education, achievement and wellbeing.
Many thanks to everyone involved.
The good work will continue from September 2011 led by Mrs S Smith (Deputy Head). If you are interested in knowing more about the range of developments on offer such as the Parent Carer Forum, Family Learning and Parents as Learners sessions, or if you have any requests or good ideas you want to share please contact Mrs Smith at shsmith@westfield-admin.co.uk
Westfield Sports College has achieved the prestigious Silver status at their recent Investors in People review, acknowledging their commitment to leading edge people management practice in their chosen assessment areas.
At the College, we have made huge investments in our staff. This has led to a tremendous impact on our students due to the amelioration of the quality of teaching and learning across the College. We have continued to build on our success with Investors in People over the last three years and feel that we are reaching a tremendously high standard of practice. We are delighted with the Investors in People Silver recognition.
With over 160 employees and 1400 students, Westfield Sports College originally achieved Investors in People recognition in 2009 before immediately exploring and working towards Bronze recognition in 2010. The college is tremendously focused on staff development in order to provide the best possible education for their students. The Investors in People Silver award for 2011 is wonderful recognition of their hard work.
