Peaks College – A ‘Taste’ of College – Wednesday 20th June

peaks college

Peaks College are offering the opportunity for Y10 pupils to find out what is involved in some of the subjects at Peaks College in September 2013.

They will have an opportunity to ‘taste’ 3 of them on Wednesday 20th June from 10:30 to 15:30. Students will do their Physics exam first and then will leave Westfield Sports College straight after the exam to arrive promptly at Peaks College and make sure they have a pen & paper with them. Lunch and drinks will be available to purchase from the refectory or alternatively students can bring their own packed lunch. Students will not be allowed to leave the site. Students do not have to wear college uniform.

Please complete part (b) of the attached reply slip (Taster Day at Peaks College) yourself and encourage your son/daughter to complete part (a) and return the slip to school as soon as possible, and no later than Friday 18th May 2012.

Students must make 5 choices from the list of courses below & Peaks College will then arrange their day to match 3 of these. If they do not make 5 choices they may not get 3 of their choice.

Sports Relief starts next week

Next week is a very important week, not only for Westfield Sports College but for the whole of the UK. This is because next week sees Sports Relief start.
Sport Relief is a national fundraising campaign when the power of sport is used to raise funds for worthy causes around the world. The motto for Sport Relief is to “GO THE EXTRA MILE” and Westfield Sports College hopes to do just that but furthermore as this is a special year, our Sport Relief week will have an Olympic theme.
In a PE lesson next week, it is hoped your son/daughter will run one mile and fully embrace the Olympic spirit. Therefore we are asking students to run in fancy dress and if possible Olympic fancy dress. There will be some prizes for the best Olympic themed fancy dress, however I wish to reiterate this is not compulsory. In addition to the prizes for Olympic themed fancy dress, points are up for grabs for the London Legacy Interhall Cup. Students can achieve these points by collecting the Olympic torches as they run around the pre-marked course.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that Westfield will have a non-uniform day on Friday 23rd March in the hope of raising funds for the charity. With the nature of the fundraiser, we are encouraging all students to wear sportswear that day.
It is important to not lose sight of the fact that Sport Relief is a fund raising campaign. We are not asking for students to seek sponsorship but we are asking students to donate a small fee in celebration of Sport Relief and to make a difference around the world.
